　　第三册第四课有些学生不认识automobile，但认识car。我们可以利用语义学的上下义关系，知道上义推出下义，反过来知道下义推出上义。虽然有时推出的词义不是很精确，但却足以帮助理解文章内容。

　　3. 2.2利用语境语义关系Many people would be more comfortable if change came more slowly, but onthe other hand, there are many for whom every innovation is like a new toy.(如果改变来得慢一些的话，很多人会更加舒服一些，但是另一方面，也有很多每一个革新都像个新玩具的人)。《新编大学英语》第三册第四课读‘懂I Many people would be more comfortable if change came more slowly以后，根据语境语义关系，后面的句子可以不读，不外乎“如果改变来得慢一些的话，很多人会不舒服”或“如果改变来得快一些的话，很多人会更舒服”

　　之意。总而言之，后面的句义与前面的语义一定是相一致，不可能出现别的句义。

　　又如:Change was not always this rapid. Certain important inventions, like thetelephone, the airplane, the automobile, and the radio, had been invented by 1914,but the effects of these inventions upon the lives of ordinary citizens were not feltuntil many years later. We now have the technology to develop machines beforepeople are ready to use them.(改变也并不总是如此之快。像电话、飞机、汽车、收音机这样的重大发明于1914年以前已经做出，但是他们对普通老百姓生活的影响直到多年以后才感觉到。现在我们已经拥有开发一些机器的技术，但是要等到人们做好思想准备以后才投入使用)。《新编大学英语》第三册第四课读完Change was not always this rapid以后，后面的句子实际上已经可以不读了。因为根据语义一致原则，剩余句子意思为“变化并不是总这么快”。事实也确实如此，Certain important inventions, like the telephone, the airplane, theautomobile, and the radio, had been invented by 1914, but the effects of theseinventions upon the lives of ordinary citizens were not felt until many years later.此句道出有些发明很早做出，但是没有很快影响人们的生活，既变化慢。We nowhave the technology to develop machines before people are ready to use them这句话也继承了Change was not always this rapid的语义。上面那句话说的是过去，这句话说的是现在，语义一点也没变。
